How it works

A note from Denny & Abby:

We created Stories From because some of the moments people remember most are the ones that never get written down. Your story does not have to be polished or perfect; we simply want it to sound like you. We're genuinely honored that you're considering sharing it with us. Scroll down to learn more how Stories From works, or click the button to learn more about our story. Thank you!

We read and curate

We look for stories with heart, humor, honesty, and a strong fit for each community collection.

Collections are published

Your story could be selected for publication and preserved in one of our community collection books to be read by others for generations to come.

What to Submit

The stories we hope to preserve

True

Tell us what really happened

It can be funny, moving, awkward, tender, messy, or all of those at once. Real life usually refuses to pick a lane.

Short

Aim for 250-600 words

Enough room to set the scene, share the turn, and leave us with the line or feeling that made it worth remembering.

Human

Keep the voice yours

We are not looking for polished essays as much as honest moments told with warmth, clarity, and a pulse.

Careful

Protect private people

Please avoid using real names or identifying details for students, patients, children, coworkers, or private individuals. We may change names or details to help protect privacy.

Classroom stories we're looking for

You don’t need a perfect essay. You just need a moment.
Tell us what happened, who was there, why it mattered, and what stayed with you.

A student who said something you’ll never forget
A lesson that went completely off the rails
A classroom mishap that still makes you laugh
A quiet breakthrough
A moment of unexpected kindness
A hard day that ended with hope
A staff room story
A small school memory that stayed with you

What contributors receive

Everyone who submits a story will receive 10% off a future Stories From book order.
If your story is selected for publication, you’ll receive one free Author Edition copy of the book featuring your story!

Submitting a story does not guarantee publication.
Selected stories may be edited for length, clarity, privacy, tone, and fit.

Privacy first

Please avoid using full names or identifying details about students, families, coworkers, or private situations unless you have permission. Changed names and general descriptions are completely fine. We want real stories told with care.

Books that give back to classrooms

a nonprofit supporting teachers, students, or classroom communities.
We’ll announce the nonprofit partner before or when the book becomes available.
